The Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) is organising the 1st Inter-school Basketball Tournament in collaboration with ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.’ The event themed under, “Catch Them Young,” will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Lerie Kohima, from 2-4 October, 2024. Today, a meeting and game fixture event was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Sec School, Lerie Kohima, with representatives from all participating schools in attendance.
In his brief speech, Tosovi Jordan Mekro, General Secretary of KDBA, emphasised the associations’ strategy to engage younger students by reaching out to high schools. Their goal is to promote basketball as a popular sport among students, noting the growing interest in the game.
He pointed out the significance of physical activities for students, stressing the need for every student to have a platform to pursue their interests. Mekro remarked that while other sports receive considerable attention, basketball often gets overlooked, which is why they initiated this tournament to provide students with the opportunity to shine in the sport. It had been informed that 18 schools (28 teams) will be participating in the tournament including both boys and girls.
