Kohima: JJM aims to ensure water tap connectivity for all rural households by December 2024

District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM) meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kohima, with Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DWSM Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS on 13th September 2024. The meeting focused on water tap connectivity and sanitation efforts across the Kohima district, with various departments presenting their progress and challenges.

At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner recommended setting monthly targets to expedite the achievement of objectives under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He also urged departments to share data, cross verify, correct discrepancies, and work together towards achieving 100% water tap connectivity in every village household in Kohima.

The Rural Development Department provided updates on sanitation work and water tap connectivity in Kohima, while the Water Resources Department highlighted ongoing water harvesting projects and data collection efforts. The meeting emphasized the importance of convergence between stakeholder departments to streamline the execution of water supply connectivity. Water tap connectivity in Anganwadi Centres, PHC/CHC, government schools along with challenges and measures taken were discussed during the meeting.

The Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) outlined the progress of JJM in Kohima and Tseminyu districts, informing that of the 76 villages in Kohima, 71 are under the PHED’s jurisdiction, while the remaining 5 are overseen by the Rural Development Department. The JJM aims to ensure water tap connectivity for all rural households by December 2024.
