Kohima Premier League Season 1 to begin from January 9

Kohima Premier League ( KPL), under the aegis of the Kohima District Cricket Association, will kick off from Friday at Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium, Sovima. According to the Governing Team of the KPL, the T20 League will be contested by Four teams, namely The Capital Sixers, Oking Outlaws, Ura Mavericks and the Central Hurricanes from January  9 till 13. A total of 60 KDCA registered players and 2 players from Tseminyu District Association were drafted in a common Players pool, the four teams would then compete to pick the best squad from these Players pool.

Besides picking the best and the most experienced players, the four teams are also obligated with the responsibility to pick U-16 and junior player in their squads so as to ensure the right exposure for young  and emerging talents.

The Governing informed that the aim of the KPL is to provide a platform for budding local cricketers to express themselves and also to compete in standard set-ups and quality facilities. The KPL will also aim to prepare and provide a launch pad for youngsters to take up their game to the professional level.

The Governing Team further said that keeping in mind the sustainability of the league, they have limited the number of teams to just four this season but are open to go bigger in terms of number teams, prizes and other arrangements in the following season depending on the success and response of the inaugural edition.

Meanwhile in the players pick, Kelhousilie Zapoutuo, a current U-23 Nagaland team player became the highest valued player of the KPL season-1 followed by Tapitu Tupitor and Zidu Pohena  in the second and third place respectively.
