Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Longkumer, who is also the granddaughter of late Longrimendang Ao, a pioneering citizen from Mokokchung, after whom the school is named, spoke of how her grandfather liberally provided for the best education of both his sons and daughters at a time when girl-children were not encouraged to pursue education, especially higher education.
She said in order to commemorate his unbiased outlook on education, his daughters and granddaughters have categorically sponsored the LAGHS Academic Award. She also underscored the need for students to not only contend for success in academics, but to pay attention to holistic development. She further called upon the teachers and students to collaborate effectively to maximize overall student performance.

The school administrators and teachers acknowledged the “sustained support” given by the family.
The LAGHS stands on a 3.47 acre land donated by the children of the late Longrimendang Ao. The family has also built a rostrum for the school at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs. Longrimendang is said to have began his career as a teacher, having been sent to Satakha, Zunheboto in 1944, to head a government middle English school. He had joined the PWD department in the later part of his life.
