The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), in collaboration with the Lotha Officers Association (LOA), on Saturday felicitated HSLC and HSSLC achievers from the Lotha community at a programme held in Wokha.

Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, additional director, Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the special guest. Expressing joy over the commendable performance of students, he lauded the perseverance of teachers and parents in guiding their wards to bring laurels to the community.

Tsanglao reminded the students that academic achievement is only the beginning, stressing that education must go beyond scoring marks to include skills, character, and confidence. He urged them to build employability skills—technical expertise, communication, personality development, and IT literacy—stating that while degrees may open doors, skills enable individuals to go further. “You are the future workforce, leaders, and innovators. Prepare yourselves with skills to seize opportunities,” he said.

He further invited civil society organisations and churches to not only celebrate academic achievers but also recognise entrepreneurs, farmers, and others who contribute to job creation. Highlighting the issue of unemployment, he lamented that more than 70,000 educated youths are registered as unemployed in Nagaland, with many more unregistered. He emphasised self-reliance through skill acquisition and encouraged parents to guide their children towards private sector opportunities. Tsanglao also informed that the department has tied up with the Sector Skill Council of India to provide training in the construction sector, with a facility coming up in Dimapur.

Extending greetings on behalf of LOA, Orenthung Lotha, IAS and president of LOA, exhorted the students to choose their careers wisely at the crossroads of Class X and XII. He noted that the recent NBSE results reflected a transformation, with rural schools also making it to the toppers’ list. He advised students to use technology and AI as aids to learning rather than becoming dependent on them.

Greetings were also delivered by Er. Mhondamo Ovung, chairman of Lotha Hoho; Nzano P. Kikon, deputy chairperson of Wokha Town Council; and Mharomo V. Murry, president of Lotha Youth Hoho.

During the programme, ten HSLC toppers and five HSSLC toppers, along with two Governor’s Awardees in MIL subjects from HSLC and HSSLC, as well as a Governor’s Award recipient from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Wokha, were felicitated with citations and certificates by LSU and LOA. The Lt. Thungjano Tsanglao Honorary Award for Lotha female achievers was presented to two HSLC rank holders (rank 6) by Lankonsen Tsanglao, ADC Tamlu, on behalf of the family. Certificates of appreciation were also handed to schools in Wokha district that achieved cent percent results.

Earlier, S Zubenthung Ngullie president LSU delivered his welcome address, while Lechano Tsopoe presented special number. Introduction of the toppers was led by Nyanthung M Khuvung general secretary LSU, while dedication prayer for the achievers and students was pronounced by Rev.
