Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura celebrates Statehood day today; PM extends greetings

The state of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura will be commemorating its statehood day today. The three North East States became full-fledged states of the Indian Union on January 21, 1972.

Post-independence, the then princely states Manipur and Tripura merged with India in 1949 where they were granted the Union Territory status in 1956. Meanwhile, Meghalaya which was part of Assam received its autonomy through the Assam Reorganisation (Meghalaya) Act of 1969. Marking a historic moment, the three states became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region (Re-organisation) Act of 1971.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted the people of Meghalaya on its Statehood day. In a post on social media platform X, the PM stated:

“On Meghalaya’s Statehood Day, I convey my best wishes to the people of the state. Meghalaya is admired for its natural beauty and the industrious nature of the people. Praying for the continuous development of the state in the times to come.”

Expressing pride about the role played by the people of Manipur towards India’s development, Modi today greeted the people of Manipur on its Statehood day. “Greetings to the people of Manipur on their Statehood Day. We are incredibly proud of the role played by the people of Manipur towards India’s development. My best wishes for the progress of Manipur,” posted Modi on X.

The Prime Minister also greeted the people of Tripura on its Statehood day. He remarked that the state was making noteworthy contributions to national progress. In a post on X, he wrote: “Best wishes to the people of Tripura on their Statehood Day. The state is making noteworthy contributions to national progress. It is also known for its rich culture and heritage. May Tripura continue to scale new heights of development.”
