Mhathung Yanthan and YM Humtsoe visits DIET and Bailey Baptist College Wokha

As part of the institutional visit, Chairman DPDB Wokha and Advisor Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman DPDB K Mhathung Tsanglao, along with all DPDB members, visited two institutions at Wokha the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Bailey Baptist College, Wokha on June 10.

The first stop was DIET Wokha, where Principal, Mhonbeni Kikon welcomed the team and introduced the institute’s activities and programmes. She highlighted that DIET provides both pre‑service and in‑service training for teachers. However, she also pointed out several challenges faced by the institute, including poor road conditions and the urgent need for infrastructure expansion.

Advisor, Mhathung Yanthan assured that necessary assistance from the government would be addressed if required, and advised the institute to keep track of pre‑service trainees to assess their success rate.

The delegation then visited Bailey Baptist College, where Principal, Benthungo Ngullie and staff received the members. Ngullie presented a review of the college’s functioning and highlighted pressing challenges. Established in 1996 as a 75‑year mission college by Wokha Town Baptist Church, the institution is currently facing difficulties due to low student enrollment, poor road accessibility, and lack of sports infrastructure.

MLA, Mhonbemo Humtsoe shared his concern over the problems faced by the college and pledged to sponsor six students this year. Advisor Mhathung Yanthan also emphasized the importance of having such a college in Wokha, announcing his support to establish a library and a table tennis facility, while assuring continued assistance in the future.
