The National Wildlife Week is celebrated from October 2 to 8 every year throughout the country with the aim to protect and preserve our rich Flora and Fauna. The Mokokchung Forest Division has kick started its celebration on October 1 with the Soul House Academy at Forest Office Complex Marepkong. The School led by the Principal of the Soul House Academy Arenla Lemtur along with the teaching faculty and students from Grade 3 to 6 visited the Forest Complex to learn and experience the various initiative undertaken by Forest for conservation of Flora and Fauna, informed a press release by the Mokokchung Forest Division.
Dr Sentitula, IFS, DFO Mokokchung welcomed all the teachers and students while Mokokchung Range Officer, I. Sashilemla, RFO provided an overview of the National Wildlife Week which is annually observed across India to spread the awareness of the importance of wildlife and its conservation in India. She encouraged the students sharing that the next exemplary conservation efforts should be brought from within themselves. The need to always care and connect with nature was also emphasized.
In addition to this year’s theme ‘Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence’, Mokokchung Forest Division will also focus on ‘Listening to the Voices of our Future Generation’. The day was marked with a walk around forest park to enable the children to explore, observe and connect with Nature. “Children, being the future hope, it is important that the values of love for nature and wildlife be instilled in them,” stated the Division. This was followed by video presentation on various theme of wildlife conservation. Further, children were entertained by quizzes on basics of wildlife led by Quiz Master Wapang.

“Thereafter, virtual reality experience was shown to the children. This is a new feature equipped in the Awareness Centre of the Forest Division, intended to let people, especially children to widen their knowledge base on technology and to excite their learning experiences,” informed the Division.
The children were also’ given the time to share their views. Sendongmeren of Grade-III shared on the need to save environment, to avoid cutting trees, preserve them and plant more trees. Sentinungla of Grade-IV stated that she learnt about different plants and animals in Nagaland.
“Overall, the event was marked with the joyful sharing of resources to mark the Wildlife Week and with the hope that no matter how small or big, we all are doing our best to think of all the creation besides us and the young minds are our future green aspirants and ambassadors for propagating love for our environment,” mentioned the Divison.
