The Core Committee of the four wards in Mokokchung – Penli, Majakong, Lijaba Lijen and Artang Ward – has announced that the indefinite “Total Vehicular Bandh” in relation to the issue of the IMDH Road repair which had been postponed earlier would begin from 16 December onwards.

In a press release issued on 14 December, the Committee stated that the four wards had made several appeals to the Government of Nagaland through the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung for “immediate repair of the said road giving an Ultimatum with a dateline.”

They had then decided to postpone the bandh “in good faith” after DC Mokokchung had assured that the Government of Nagaland “had released the required amount for the said work.”

However, the Committee stated that because of “the failure from the part of the Administration and the Concern Department”, they would be implementing the “indefinite ‘Total Vehicular Bandh’ on the Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital Road from Police point and the approach road to IMDH from Luke Sasong Road junction” from 6am on 16 December.

The indefinite bandh will begin on 16 December since the 14-day ultimatum given to the government to repair the road would be expiring on 15 December, it pointed out.

The release ended with the Committee making an appeal to “the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, AKM, All Ward Union, MTLT, MCCI, Media fraternity, different Civil Societies and the citizens of Mokokchung Town” to cooperate and work together “for the benefit of all”.
