Member of Parliament from Nagaland,  S Supongmeren Jamir on Wednesday raised the long-pending issue of restoring passenger train services to Tuli under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, urging the Ministry of Railways to take immediate steps towards reviving the vital railway link.

In his submission, Jamir highlighted that the Tuli railway line, which operated on metre gauge since the 1990s and was upgraded to broad gauge in 2000, had even witnessed a successful passenger trial run between Tuli and Mariani in 2007.

However, despite the infrastructure being in place, the passenger service was never made operational, he stated.

The MP requested the Government to resume passenger train services, along with a parcel van, between Dimapur and Tuli to benefit daily commuters, traders, students, and the general public. He also appealed for the extension of broad gauge train services from Guwahati to Tuli, which would significantly improve connectivity for the people of Nagaland and Upper Assam.

Jamir pointed out that the existing goods train service between Amguri and Tuli has been generating substantial revenue, reportedly earning nearly ₹30 crore during the last financial year. This demonstrates the commercial viability and operational feasibility of the route.

Emphasizing the overwhelming public demand, Jamir assured the Ministry of Railways of full public support for the initiative and urged the Government to take early action to restore passenger train services to Tuli, thereby enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic development in the region.
