Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Nagaland, SSupongmeren Jamir, has taken up the concerns of contractual employees working under Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan), Nagaland, with Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

In a letter dated August 11, Jamir highlighted the concerns of contractual employees serving in the Engineering and Programme Sections of Doordarshan, Nagaland.

The MP pointed out that the existing contractual employees were engaged through proper public advertisement and interviews and have been performing responsibilities similar to those handled by regular staff. Their duties include technical maintenance, studio operations, transmission and programme execution, which are to the smooth functioning of daily broadcast operations, he stated.

Despite carrying out these responsibilities with sincerity and commitment, Jamir said  the contractual employees continue to work without adequate job security, a structured pay system and basic service benefits.

He urged the Union Ministry to consider formulating a policy for regularisation or absorption, taking into account the employees’ experience and length of service. He also sought implementation of a proper pay structure based on the principle of equal pay for equal work, along with job security and basic service benefits such as EPF, medical facilities and leave provisions.

Jamir further made a specific appeal for special recruitment to the Engineering and Programme Sections of Doordarshan in Nagaland, stressing the need to strengthen manpower and improve the functioning of the public broadcaster in the State.

The MP expressed hope that the Union Ministry would give urgent consideration to the matter and take appropriate measures in the interest of the contractual employees as well as the effective functioning of Doordarshan under Prasar Bharati in Nagaland.
