Mumbai : 53rd Nagas Meet cum Freshers’ Day

The Naga Students’ Union Mumbai (NSUM) celebrated its Annual Nagas Meet under the theme of “Rooted in Traditions, Sustainable in Action”. Based on the theme, the event was executed without the usage of any plastic item. The event’s theme helped spell out the values of sustainable actions which have been part and parcel of our cultural heritage, and served as both a reminder and grounds to bring together and celebrate the identity and knowledge of Naga people, informed a press release by NSUM.

The event was conducted In Mumbai University’s Marathi Bhasha Bhavan Hall, with a lineup of Guests and artists: Chief guest Hepuni Bismarck, Deputy General Manager of the State Bank of India, CC, Mumbai, Moko Koza, 5-man-band Britto KC, Mr. Sankey A Rumthao & Shirinwon Ramror and Ningkhan. This roster, including the events’ organizers and the audience and the plethora of activities created the prime environment of a festivity being celebrated in hallowedness and vibrance.

The program was divided into two sessions: formal and informal. The formal event commenced with an invocation led by Rev. Dr. Gleever Lungleng, followed by the presidential speech delivered by NSUM’s president, Thujolu Phesao. Chief Guest Hepuni Bismarck delivered an insightful speech emphasizing the significance of acknowledging the diversity within the Naga community and recognizing each other’s fellow tribes and being aware of the advances in the community and never straying away from it. “He captivated the audience with his words of medicinal reality, orating on the competitive nature of Mumbai, and the only way to survive it being adaptability and innovation. He emphasized on the hardworking nature of Mumbaikars and stressed on the importance of not only capturing opportunity, but also knowing how to see it. For him, taking even the slightest of opportunities for granted is failure. He further emphasized on the way we could inculcate this work culture into research on our own identity so as to only protect it, but also revere it and know about it. He concluded with the quote “Be the change that you want to see in this world””, mentioned the press release.

The formal session concluded with a Vote of thanks by Asani A Florence and a closing prayer by Pastor Hamyan Phom, Pastor of NCF, followed by lunch.n

The Informal session witnessed a Musical night, filled with echoes of different people tuning different genres of music but with equal passion from both the crowd and the performers.

“The emcee of this session was Winnerson Khulusiimo.  The informal session was filled with exciting performances. The highlight of the night however was the band Britto KC with their melodious blends of rock and pop, and the rhymes of Mr. Moko Koza. They induced a rave within the audience for the entirety of the program,” added the press release.

The Nagas Student Union Mumbai is a dynamic organization that aims to promote Naga culture, unity, and education among Naga students in Mumbai. Established in 1971, it has been working tirelessly to foster a sense of community and belonging among the Naga students in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai. It is not only limited to interests of Naga students in Mumbai but also working people and Nagas in general who come here for a myriad of reasons. In a nutshell, it is a welfare union body run by students.
