Nagaland cricketers bag accolades at 4th NECDC Achievers’ Nite in Gangtok

Nagaland’s cricketers received recognition at the 4th North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) Achievers’ Nite, held in Gangtok on 6th April 2025. The prestigious event, hosted by the Sikkim Cricket Association, celebrated the outstanding performances of cricketers from the North East region during the 2024-25 BCCI domestic season, a press e from Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) stated.

Jonathan Rongsen, Captain of Nagaland Ranji team, was honoured as the North East Player of the Season (Male), for his remarkable 769 runs and 32 wickets. The all-rounder also received the accolade for Best Batter in the Senior Men’s category, with an impressive tally of 769 runs in 22 innings, showcasing his dominance at the crease.

In the U-16 Boys category, Aloto Sumi emerged as a standout performer, securing two prestigious awards—Best Batter with 245 runs in just 9 innings, and Best Bowler, delivering an outstanding performance with 27 wickets in 8 innings. Sumi was awarded ‘North East Zone Emerging Player’ at last year’s event.

In the U-23 category, Mughavi Sumi was recognised as the Best Batter, accumulating 557 runs in 14 innings, while Yugandhar Singh was celebrated as the Best Wicketkeeper, with an impressive record of 15 stumpings in 10 innings. Their performances highlight the depth of talent emerging from Nagaland’s cricketing ecosystem, NCA asserted.

Adding to the state’s glory, the Nagaland Senior Men’s Cricket Team was felicitated for successfully maintaining its Elite Division status in the Ranji Trophy, marking another significant milestone in the state’s steady progression in domestic cricket.

The NCA delegation, led by Hon. Secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing, represented the state with pride at this prestigious gathering, reflecting the growing prominence of Nagaland cricket on the national stage.

This recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the collective progress of Nagaland’s cricketing infrastructure and talent development programs. The event stands as a testament to the unwavering spirit and dedication of cricketers from Nagaland, paving the way for greater success in the future, the NCA stated in its press release.
