Nagaland joined the nationwide launch of Watershed Yatra campaign in a state level launch program held at the Directorate of Land Resources, Kohima with G. Ikuto Zhimomi, Advisor, Land Resources, Nagaland as the Guest of Honour.
Zhimomi, in his speech, briefed about the Watershed Yatra Campaign which is mass outreach campaign to create awareness about watershed development activities carried out under Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana ( WDC – PMKSY 2.0) project area across 27 states and 2 UTs. The Advisor highlighted that the Department of Land Resources, Nagaland has been dedicated to watershed development since 1999. Under the PMKSY – WDC 2.0 launched during 2021-22 , the department is implementing projects across 9 districts in Nagaland – Peren , Phek , Kohima , Mokokchung, Zunheboto , Wokha , Kiphire , Noklak and Tuensang.
“This program is a community driven project and the importance of watershed cannot be undermined,” he added. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting community-based watershed management projects and empowering rural communities. “By engaging the community and creating awareness, we are building a foundation for a sustainable future,” stated Zhimomi.
Albert Ngullie, CEO, SLNA, Nagaland, and Director, Land Resources, in his keynote address, highlighted the importance of the Watershed Yatra in the context of the state’s unique ecological landscape. He encouraged every citizen to create awareness at both an individual and community level for sustainable utilization and management of our natural resources.
A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of progressive farmers who have made significant contributions to water conservation and sustainable agriculture. Kekhrielezo Zuyie, Proprietor, KK Wood Touch Furnitures, promoted under PMKSY-WDC 2.0 shared his experiences.

During the launch, Land and Water Conservation,” was undertaken. The program was followed by the National Level Virtual Launching Program conducted through webcasting in which Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Union Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development flagged off the Watershed Yatra virtually.
Short speeches were delivered by Pelenuo, Founder and MD of Zub Zub India, and Ruopfuzhanuo Whiso, Fourth Runner-Up, Miss Universe India 2024. Both speakers emphasized the importance of community participation and youth engagement in water conservation and land restoration efforts across Nagaland.
The program commenced with a welcome address by the Chairperson, followed by an invocation prayer by Rev. Dr. Kevichalie Metha, Pastor of Peraciezie Baptist Church. The event was presided over by Kevekha Kevin Zehol NCS, Chairman, SLNA, Nagaland and Commissioner & Secretary, Land Resources.
