Nagaland University observed Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2 at the Conference Hall of the Administrative Complex, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme also honoured the Safai Mitras for their dedicated year-round service in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the University campus. The programme was chaired by Dr. Gyati Yam, member of the Committee on Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Likhase Sangtam, Nodal Officer and Chairperson of the Committee on Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 said, Swachhata Hi Seva is not merely a cleanliness campaign but also about developing a sense of responsibility, discipline, and ownership towards the surroundings.
Stating that various activities based on the five pillars, as directed by the Ministry of Education, were undertaken, Dr Likhase extended appreciation to wardens, faculty members, officers, staff, NSS volunteers, students, scholars, and Safai Mitras who actively participated. He said that the campaign may end, but Swachhata must continue as a habit and as a way of life.

Dr Likhase also thanked the University administration for their support in making Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 a success. He urged everyone to keep the University cleaner, greener, and healthier.
The program showcased a short video of a series of activities that were conducted from September 17 to October 1. They included Waste to Wealth competition, CTU activities and cleanliness drives within the campus including departments, offices and hostels, Mass Social Work & Jan Bhagidari, Swachhata Se Samriddhi, Safai Mitra Health Camp, Ek Din Ek Ghanta Shramdaan, etc.
Hillary Kropi of the Department of Political science presented a song. Prizes were distributed to all the winners of the Waste to Wealth competition, to honor innovative recycling and sustainability efforts. Additionally, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was distributed by Dr Tovishe Phucho, NSS Programme Coordinator to the Safai Mitras, as a token of appreciation for their year-round effort in keeping the campus clean, hygienic and healthy.
In his vote of thanks, Dr Ashutosh Tripathi thanked Prof JK Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Abemo, Registrar, Committee Members, HoDs, Officers, Faculty members, Research Scholars, Students, Safai Mitras and everyone involved in making the campaign and the Swachh Bharat Diwas programme a grand success.
