Nagaland’s Abdon Mech awarded GQ’s Most Influential Young Indians

Independent indie-pop singer-songwriter Abdon Mech has been named among GQ’s Most Influential Young Indians 2026 in Mumbai, marking a significant cultural milestone as the first Naga to be featured on the prestigious annual list.

Known for spotlighting the country’s most dynamic young voices across entertainment, business, sport, and culture, GQ India’s list has previously included names such as Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, and new-generation cultural forces like Seedhe Maut and Anuv Jain.

This year Abdon joined the prestigious list alongside names like Hanumankind, Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon, Shanaya Kapoor, Raghav Juyal, Sara Tendulkar, and more. Not only was he an awardee but also the special performer of the night amidst a star studded audience panning across Bollywood, Cricket, Fashion, Business etc.

“This moment feels bigger than me,” he says. Abdon, who also, earlier made national news for opening for John Mayer’s debut historic show in India adds,  “It’s a step forward for where I come from, and for the kind of story I’m trying to share to the world.”

Over the past few years, Abdon Mech has built a dedicated following through his music and live performances, gaining traction both within the Northeast and across India.

It may be mentioned that Abdon Mech is an independent indie-pop singer-songwriter from Nagaland. His work reflects a blend of introspective songwriting and contemporary pop sensibilities, resonating strongly with a new generation of listeners.
