A Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) awareness and linkage programme was conducted at the Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts (NCMFA), Kohima, on September 22. The programme was organised in collaboration with Youth Mission to sensitise students on substance use, addiction and its impact on the brain and overall well-being.

The programme commenced with an introduction by Deto Keyho, Project Coordinator, Youth Mission, who briefed the participants on the objectives of the initiative and the work of Youth Mission in addressing substance abuse and supporting individuals affected by addiction.

The main session on “The Neuroscience of Addiction” was delivered by Joseph Nyekha, Project Director, Youth Mission. He explained how addictive substances affect the brain, particularly the reward system and dopamine pathways, and discussed their impact on behaviour, decision-making, relationships and overall well-being.

He also emphasised the importance of awareness, support and professional rehabilitation in overcoming addiction. Information about the Youth Mission Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts and its support services was also shared.

The session was followed by the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge, administered to the students, reaffirming their commitment to making informed choices and contributing towards the prevention of substance abuse and the creation of a drug-free society.

The programme concluded with distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to the participants.
