The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has officially welcomed seven members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), along with their supporters, into its fold. The joining took place on May 31, 2025, marking a strategic consolidation of regional political strength in Nagaland.

In a statement issued by the NDPP Media & Communication Committee, the party expressed that the decision made by the seven NCP legislators was not a “random act”, but a reflection of their confidence in the leaderships of NDPP President, Chingwang Konyak and Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio.

“This move once reiterates the belief that the Regional party is an entity that truly feels and understands the needs and aspirations of the people, and that the Regional party is in a better suited position to carry forward the voice of the people,” the party stated, adding that at a time when the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is at a very crucial stage, the joining of these seven leaders will further strengthen the NDPP as a regional party and help in furthering our agenda of pursuing the issue with all negotiating parties and the Government of India in expediting a final settlement to the Indo-Naga issue in our role as an active facilitator.

The NDPP also clarified that this development would not affect the existing dynamics between the NDPP and its alliance partner, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA).

The NDPP opined that this would only further help in strengthening the alliance with more members and that the PDA would grow stronger in the days to come.

“The NDPP firmly assures our alliance partner, the BJP, as well as the people of the State, that the PDA will continue to function as it has for the last seven years—only stronger and more united,” the statement affirmed. The party also reiterated its continued contribution to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the national level with “renewed vigor and commitment.”

Concluding the statement, the NDPP called upon the people of Nagaland to continue extending their support to the NDPP-led PDA Government in its mission to build a stronger, more prosperous state for future generations.
