The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) on Thursday submitted a representation to the Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking “immediate intervention” into crimes again at women in Manipur.
NMA stated that it was “aggrieved” by the violence perpetrated on women since the ethnic clashes began on 3 May 2023 in the state.
It particularly mentioned two cases in its representation to NCW. The first case being the “Abduction and brutal murder of Ms. M. Lucy of Narum village, from the Naga Maring tribe. She was a resident of Beulalram, Pallel and murdered at Sawombung on the 15th July, 2023 by armed people of the Meitei community.”

The second case that NMA highlighted was the “shocking incident of 4 May 2023, where two Vaiphei young women of the Kuki Zo community of B. Phainom village, Kangkokpi district, were stripped, paraded naked along the street, groped and raped by armed young Meiteis.”

NMA said that the “horrifying violence and trauma of the victims in the video which has gone viral, is a shame to humanity and all of us in this region” and demanded that an inquiry be set up by NCW into the mentioned cases and also countless others. It stated the ‘war’ in Manipur has forced women and young girls to bear untold violence.
