The Thang Students’ Union (TSU) organized a joint consultative meeting on 29 November 2024, at the Old Council Hall in Noklak Village. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Noklak, representatives of the School Management Development Committee (SMDC), School Management Committee (SMC), teaching staff, and parents/guardians of students from Government Primary School (GPS) and Government High School (GHS), Noklak.
In his address, the SDEO expressed his gratitude to TSU for initiating the meeting, emphasizing its importance in addressing challenges faced by the education sector, particularly in government schools. Drawing from his 22 years of teaching experience, he highlighted the pivotal roles of parents, teachers, and SMDC/SMC members, describing them as the “three important circles” in education.
He urged the parents to focus more on their children’s education, as foundational learning begins at home. Teachers were encouraged to approach their duties with sincerity, as teaching is a mission that brings eventual rewards. The SDEO also stressed the critical responsibilities of SMDC and SMC members, pointing out that they are entrusted with power to drive developmental changes but often fail to utilize these powers effectively.
During the meeting, the Thang Students’ Union took a firm stance against the practice of employing proxy teachers, declaring that such practices would no longer be tolerated.
Discussions covered a wide range of grievances and topics, including the roles and responsibilities of SMDC, SMC, parents, teachers, and students. The focus was on collaborative efforts to address educational challenges and shape a brighter future for students.
The meeting was chaired by the TSU President and General Secretary and invocation prayer was pronounced by Deacon Bungon. Reports were presented by the SMDC Chairman and SMC Chairman. The event concluded with a benediction by Shen, TSU Treasurer, followed by a second session for further discussions.
The consultative meeting served as a significant step toward fostering cooperation among all stakeholders to improve the quality of education and address systemic issues in Noklak Village.
