The Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts, Kohima and Protean E-GOV Technologies Limited jointly celebrated National Pension System (NPS) Diwas on Monday, DIPR informed. The celebration is held in rotation basis amongst the states of India and was held in Nagaland for the first time, Principal Director, Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts, R.N Yanthan mentioned in the welcome address.

Commissioner & Secretary, Finance Department, Taliremba, in his address, said that for a person who opts for government service, their priority and consideration is pension after retirement due to its attractive package. Regarding NPS, he said that initially when it was implemented in Nagaland, everything was manual work but now there has been substantial improvement in the system as everything has become online which is a very positive development.

He added that Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) and the Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts are the key players in the NPS system and have carried out many sensitisation programs on NPS for all departments which were very beneficial. Taliremba also added that though there has been negligence, not consciously on the part of the departments in submitting the backlogs, he hoped it would all work out in due course of time. He added that it is for them to look at the interest of the state and safeguard it, and the departments should be dedicated.

Joint Director, Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts, Amenla Jamir gave a presentation on National Pension System, where she highlighted the status and development of NPS in the state. Where she explained that NPS contributions are prepared through online from the eNPS portal. Online PRAN Generation Module (OPGM) has been adopted for the State Government of Nagaland. In this Module, the Treasury office will generate the PRAN through Online after receiving the PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) generation form from the DDO and has constituted an Oversight Review Committee on NPS to review the implementation of NPS in the State.

Jamir also mentioned that not all departments have submitted their backlogs in the stipulated time and so the department has given a window from 25th September to 13th October 2023 to submit the backlogs. She highlighted some issues which needs to be taken note of while submitting the missing/backlog NPS contribution.

She gave various directions such as asking departments not to submit the uploaded NPS contributions (challan and annexure) while submitting the missing contributions; to submit only the soft copy (format which was issued by this Directorate) and not to print the format; to verify/check the PRAN properly before submitting. She also stated that many duplications and wrong PRANS were detected while uploading which resulted in delay uploading. The Treasury Office has to update the challan number in the eNPS portal latest by 20th of every month, she added.

Assistant Vice President, Protean E-Governance Ltd, Madhusudan Das gave an overview on NPS, where he said that NPS Diwas is dedicated to the citizens of India. NPS is for sound financial wealth where a person retires with dignity. Protean is also going international and is representing India in the international market as it is citizen centric. NPS has attractive rebate of return and is well organized and suitable for all citizens and competitive scheme performance where employees can take benefits. Das added that Protean website has pension calculator where a subscriber can evaluate his contributions. He also appealed all to disseminate the information of the benefits NPS to the general populace.
