The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) in association with The Nature Conservancy Centre (TNCC) and Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) organized a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for revision of the Nagaland State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NSBSAP) on September 24 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.

This workshop is in continuation to the consultation held on September 23 with line departments and community-based organisations.

The programme was chaired by Sidramappa M Chalkapure, IFS, CCF & Member Secretary, NSBB. Vedpal Singh, IFS, PCCF & HoFF graced the occasion as Special Guest and delivered the inaugural address. Supongnukshi, IFS, APCCF delivered the keynote address.

In his inaugural address, the Special Guest stressed that the revision of the NSBSAP should not be a plain documentation exercise, but should be based on scientifically backed and research backed actions, grounded in field data and ecological realities of Nagaland.

Short speeches were delivered by Dr. Ishwar Narayanan, Executive Director, TNCC and Sanjay Sharma, General Manager, FES, who reiterated their continued support to Nagaland.

Nagaland prepared its first NSBSAP in 2005, revised in May 2022 with 12 targets. The present revision is necessitated to align the state plan with India’s updated NBSAP launched at CBD COP16 and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) with 23 Global Biodiversity Targets.

Technical sessions on Targets 1-6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 20, 21 & 23 were moderated by Dr. Sayan Banerjee, Sanjay Sharma, Yaranajit Deka and Sunpreet Kaur.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Savinuo Kikhi, RFO, I/c Chiephobozou Range & NSBB.
