The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has said that cloudy heavy rainfall and cloudy moderate rain will prevail in almost all the districts in Nagaland in the following days till 5th October 2024. Commissioner & Secretary, Lhouchalie Viya, IAS, has stated that these showers may be accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places.

The Authority has said that during this period, cloudy heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Kohima, Niuland, Noklak, and Peren while the remaining districts may receive Cloudy Moderate rain and Overcast Moderate rain.

In this regard, the NSDMA has emphasised that “it is critical to take the required precautions during this time and avoid lightning strikes and high winds, which can interrupt communication and connectivity.” Further, it said that Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundated water logging and flash floods due to the possibility of excessive precipitation in the hill sector.

Therefore, the NSDMA has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period and also requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
