The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the period from May 12 to 15, warning of rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and possible localized disruptions across several districts of Nagaland.
According to the advisory, on May 12, light rain and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in parts of Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts, while most other districts are expected to remain free from major weather disturbances.
On May 13, localized thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall are expected over several districts including Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng and Tseminyu.
The advisory stated that thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall are likely to continue on May 14 in many districts, with Longleng district expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
On May 15, scattered intermittent light to moderate rainfall is forecast in districts including Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon and Tseminyu. Mon district may also experience moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, NSDMA has advised the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity. Citizens have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during adverse weather conditions.

Residents living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas have also been advised to stay alert for possible waterlogging, flash floods and landslides during the advisory period.
The authority further requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and concerned departments to remain on alert and take necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Citizens have also been encouraged to use the Safer Nagaland App for accurate real-time weather alerts and updates.
