The National Testing Agency (NTA) will re-conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) [NEET (UG)] – 2024 for 1563 candidates on 23 June 2024. These students were earlier awarded grace/compensatory marks for time loss during the originally scheduled examination on 5 May 2024.
Amid protests, the NTA and the Education Ministry had constituted a High Powered Committee to review the awarding of grace marks. The Committee concluded that the most appropriate, fair and reasonable solution would be subjecting the 1563 candidates to a retest at the earliest. This recommendation was endorsed by the Supreme Court of India on 12th June 2024.
Based on this the NTA informed that the Score Cards of the 1563 candidates issued on 4th June 2024 will stand cancelled and thus withdrawn. The result of those affected candidates (1563) who do not wish to appear for the re-examination will be declared based on their actual marks (without compensation) obtained in the examination conducted on 05.05.2024, NTA stated.
There is widespread protests going on across the country demanding for NTA to conduct retest for all students. The Supreme Court, which is hearing petitions filed against NTA had remarked that the sanctity of the exam has been affected. The petitions allege paper leak, unfair grace marks, etc.
The NEET-UG 2024 was conducted by the National Testing Agency on 05 May 2024 from 2:00 to 5:20 pm at 4750 Centres in 571 cities (including 14 cities abroad) for more than 24 lakhs candidates. The result of the NEET (UG) – 2024 was declared on 4 June 2024.
