Nagaland University, Kohima Campus organized a retirement program in honour of Prof. Glenn T. Thong, senior professor from the Department of Geology and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kohima campus.
The event, held on 28 March 2025, was a well-deserved tribute to Prof. Thong’s outstanding contributions to the academic community and his visionary leadership at Nagaland University, Peter Ki, PRO, NU, stated in a press release. The various speakers acknowledged his instrumental role in bringing visible developments to the university, most notably in being part of the successful relocation of the School of Engineering to Kohima Campus despite numerous challenges—an exceptional achievement among his many contributions.
In his farewell speech, Prof. Thong urged the teaching faculty and scholars to take responsibility for improving the university’s ranking. He emphasized the importance of sincere academic contributions, placing social obligations as a secondary priority. Prof. Thong also stressed the need for cooperation and teamwork between the teaching faculty and administrative personnel, highlighting their interdependence.
Prof. Thong received an overwhelming farewell felicitation from faculties, departments, office representatives, and student bodies. Many took the stage to share their memorable experiences with him, with most commending his humility, strong work ethic, friendliness, and sharp wit. These qualities made him a remarkable Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Prof. Jano S. Liegise, Dean of Humanities & Education. The event began with a prelude by Kihobo Kiho, followed by invocation by Dr. Takatemsu, Deputy Librarian. Special numbers were performed by Dr. Ratan & Dr. Metuo, and Lanusama. Short speeches were delivered on behalf of NUNTSA-K, RSF-K, NUSU-K, and departmental representatives.
The program concluded with the singing of the NU Anthem led by the NUCF Choir. The university community bade farewell to Prof. Glenn with deep appreciation and gratitude for his unwavering dedication and commitment.
