In a bid to ensure seamless emergency response ahead of the rainy season, the Zunheboto District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held its first quarterly pre-monsoon preparedness meeting at the DC’s Conference Hall, Zunheboto on June 11.

Presided over by Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA, Dharam Raj, IAS, the meeting saw comprehensive presentations from various line departments detailing their readiness strategies and contingency plans for weather-related emergencies.

Taking a strict stance on operational readiness, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire & Emergency Services to remain on standby throughout the season. To prevent manpower shortages during any crisis, Raj advised departments against sanctioning bulk leave for staff.

The DC underscored that maintaining a stable, round-the-clock power supply for government establishments and essential services is non-negotiable during the monsoon. Furthermore, noting that Zunheboto Town functions as the commercial lifeline for the district, he instructed supply agencies to secure sufficient reserves of essential commodities.

Raj also emphasized that community involvement is vital to mitigating risks, urging officials to scale up public awareness campaigns on disaster safety and preparedness.
