Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister, Minister of Cooperation and Amit Shah pays tribute to police personnel on Police Commemoration Day

The Police Commemoration Day was commemorated on the 21st October, 2024 whereby, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the courageous police personnel, “Today, on Police Commemoration Day, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of our police personnel. Their unwavering dedication ensures the safety of our people. They exemplify courage and determination. Their proactive efforts and assistance during humanitarian challenges are equally commendable,” informed Ministry of Home Affairs, PIB.

Additionally, Union Home Minister and Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah also paid tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of Police Memorial Day at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi.

In his speech, the Home Minister said that Jawans of the police force are guarding the borders of India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kibithu. He mentioned that the personnel of the force always guard us and the borders, day and night, during festivals or calamities, in case of extreme heat, rain or cold wave.

Amit Shah said that the central structure at the National Police Memorial symbolises the unwavering commitment of our soldiers to duty, their profound patriotism, and their willingness to make the supreme sacrifice. He mentioned that on this very day in 1959, 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel bravely faced the Chinese army and sacrificed their lives. Shah said that after Narendra Modi assumed the office of Prime Minister, has decided to construct a Police Memorial in Central Delhi to honour the memory of these soldiers. He said that this Police Memorial will continue to inspire our youth and remind our nation that the security and progress we enjoy today is the result of the supreme sacrifices of thousands of soldiers. He added that 36,468 police officers have given their lives for the security of the country, which has enabled the nation to progress. He also mentioned that in the past year, 216 police officers have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, and the country will be forever indebted to these brave soldiers.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that there has been a tradition of our police forces making the supreme sacrifice for the security of the nation. He added that we also have a proud history where brave soldiers, from the icy and treacherous peaks of the Himalayas to the harsh deserts of Kutch and Barmer and the vast oceans, safeguard the country fearlessly, ensuring its security.

According to Amit Shah, peace was disrupted for decades in the Northeast, left-wing extremist-affected areas, and Jammu & Kashmir, but the commitment and effectiveness of their security forces, it has been possible to restore peace in the last ten years. “But our fight is not yet over,” he added. “The challenges we face today include emerging threats such as drones, drug trafficking, cybercrime, attempts to use artificial intelligence (AI) to spread unrest, plots to incite religious sentiments, infiltration, smuggling of illegal weapons, and terrorism,” he stated.

According to the Union Home Minister, police personnel nationwide is committed to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of creating a fully developed India by 2047. He stated that all states and union territories have started implementing the three new criminal laws that the nation’s Parliament passed. He claimed that our criminal justice system will be the most advanced in the world once these laws are fully put into effect. He went on to say that justice will be served within three years for any crime reported anywhere in the nation, all the way up to the Supreme Court. He underlined that putting these three new laws into effect is the first step toward eliminating delays in justice.

Amit Shah said that the Modi administration has implemented numerous programs to improve the well-being of police personnel. He stated that over 41 lakh cards have been issued and 13 lakh claims totalling approximately Rs. 1422 crore have been resolved through the Ayushman CAPF scheme. He claimed that this card is used everywhere to care for the health of our Jawans and their families. He stated a goal has been set to raise the housing satisfaction ratio in the housing scheme. According to Shah, 11,276 homes and 111 barracks had been finished by March 2024, of the 13,000 homes and 113 barracks that the Modi administration had authorized in 2015 at a cost of Rs. 3100 crore.

The Union Home Minister stated that in addition to upholding law and order and guaranteeing national security, our police personnel—particularly those of the CAPFs—perform numerous other duties.

According to him, CAPF members planted roughly 5 crore 80 lakh 90 thousand saplings between 2019 and 2024 and are caring for them as if they were their own children. “Efforts are being made to bring all the schemes of the Government. India and state governments to the citizens in all border districts through the Civic Action Programme,” stated Shah. According to the home minister, the sacrifice made by the Jawans who gave their lives for the nation will not be in vain. He claimed that as a result of these soldiers’ sacrifices, India will become a developed country by 2047, and national security will be guaranteed. He went on to say that this appreciative country will reverently remember the sacrifices made by these Jawans during the country’s centennial of independence.
