Prohibitory order issued ahead of Airport land eviction drive in Dimapur

In view of the scheduled eviction of illegal encroachments on Dimapur Airport land, Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, has issued a prohibitory order restricting public gatherings and the carrying of weapons in the designated area.

The order has been issued following the directives from the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland, and is in pursuance of the Gauhati High Court’s judgment dated May 27, 2025, in CRP No. 104 and 105 of 2024 and subsequent order from the Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima dated June 12, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police stated that there is reasonable apprehension of resistance, or any form of physical obstruction, during the eviction which may result in breach of peace, or threat to human life or safety, or disturbance of public tranquility, or damage of public and private properties and such circumstances warrants to initiate urgent preventive measures to maintain public order and peace in the specific area.

Therefore, invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 to maintain law and order, the Commissioner of Police issued prohibitory order prohibiting the assembly of 5 (five) or more persons, or carrying lethal weapons or firearms, including lathis, daggers, machetes, sticks, spears, catapults or any other dangerous articles within the jurisdiction of the area bounded under EAST: Chathe River/ Nihoto, WEST: Airport Boundary, NORTH: Ekranipathar, SOUTH: Diphupar (173W Bn CRPF Camp).

The prohibitory order, which comes into effect at 8 p.m. on June 12, will remain in force until 6 p.m. on June 13, unless withdrawn earlier.
