Around 700 people from the villages of Zhavame, Tsupfume and Zelomi and EAC Headquarter Razeba under Phek district participated in a mass social work where they cleared the stretch of 16 kilometres PWD Road from Pfutsero till Chilo by clearing the overgrown plants by the roadsides and filling potholes. The mass social work was organised by the Razeba Public Organisation in collaboration with the chairmen of the three villages and mini town under the Razeba range.

According to the press release for RPO, the entire male folks of the area participated in the social work, concerned over the “pathetic” condition of the PWD road Pfutsero-Chilo which is the lifeline of the people of Razeba range and neighbouring villages of Manipur.

The Razeba Public Organisation stated that the road has been left unattended for the past many years which compels the villagers to take matter into their own hands and initiate the repair from time to time so that they can supply their vegetables and fruits to various parts of the State and nation. The Organisation informed that every year hundreds of tons of vegetables and fruits are supplied from this area throughout the year. However, during the monsoon season which is also the peak season for the supply, due to the poor road condition many of these products cannot be marketed or the farmers are compelled to sell at a very cheap rate.

It further informed that this is not the first time that such a mass social work was organised to repair the road. The RPO mentioned that “in the year 2021 the youngsters from the area had undertaken the project of major road repair through crowd funding under the theme, “My Road My Future” which took the Concerned youngster 2 months to complete the repair work of 13 kilometres along with participation of public of the area and well wishers.”

Additionally, the Organisation expressed that the people of Razeba are eagerly waiting for the Government of Nagaland to provide good road so that the surplus produced of vegetables and fruits can be exported so that the local economy may get a boost.
