Responsibility of all depts, public in reducing air pollution in Dimapur: ADC Humtsoe

Awareness Cum Training of Public Officials under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), organised by District Administration, Dimapur, was held at Lotha Hoho Ki, Dimapur on 8th March 2024, DIPR informed.

ADC Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, in her keynote address said that Dimapur despite not being a highly industrial city was one of the two non-attainment cities in terms of air pollution in Nagaland and is a serious threat for the people. She stated that in Dimapur, the main sources of air pollution include dust from roads, vehicular emissions, emissions from stone crushers and from burning of wastes. She added that it was responsibility of all the departments as well as the public to take part in the effort to reduce air pollution in Dimapur.

During the technical session, Mvudzeviu Shuya, Scientist ‘B’ (NPCB) highlighted that Dimapur and Kohima are falling under Non-Attainment city by the Government of India for exceeding the pollutant limit beyond the national average for five consecutive years. She shared on the activities of the Nagaland Pollution Board and its role in reducing air pollution and air quality monitoring systems in place. She also noted that the overall pollution-related deaths were also the highest in India (2.4 million) caused by water, lead and occupation-related pollution.

Er. Masetshilong, Asst. Regional Transport Officer gave an overview of vehicular emission and ways to reduce vehicular emission. Paul Lokho Director, PRO RURAL also made a presentation highlighting waste management techniques and ways to reduce air as well as other environment pollution through innovative means of converting waste to useful items

The Programme was chaired by EAC Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur.
