The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has suggested that the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) lead the peace-talks between the Government of India (GoI) and the various Naga Political Groups (NPGs).

In a press release, RPP President Joel Naga, General Secretary Amai Chingkhu and Youth President Zhokhoi Chuzho stated that the NLA should forgo its role as ‘facilator’ and undertake the serious task of negotiating with GoI on the Naga political issue. “The NLA is the mandated body of the people, and it’s only natural and logical that the NLA empower itself to negotiate a settlement, as per the points highlighted in the “Framework Agreement” and the “Agreed Position”, it stated.

The RPP also said that the move would thwart accusations that the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) led government is delaying solution.

“This is a pressing matter – unlike the slogan ‘opposition-less government’ which is basically a byword for money laundering,” the Party added.
