The Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) has served a three-month ultimatum on the Works & Housing Department and the executing agency, demanding completion of the long-pending PMGSY-III road project connecting Seyochung Town via New Monger, Old Monger and Seyochung Village.
In an ultimatum addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing Department, the Union expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay in executing the project, stating that it has caused immense hardship to the people of the Seyochung area for several years.
SASU said the poor condition of the road and the slow pace of construction have severely disrupted the daily lives of residents. It alleged that recurring landslides and road blockages frequently cut off the area, while no machinery or labourers were deployed to clear the debris and restore connectivity.
The Union stated that the situation has adversely affected students, who have struggled to attend schools, while patients requiring emergency medical attention have faced serious risks due to the absence of a safe and motorable road.
The SASU highlighted a recent incident in which a dumper truck carrying construction materials for the Old Monger Baptist Church remained stranded at Seyochung Village for five days after a landslide blocked the road. Despite repeated appeals by villagers to the contractor and the site in-charge for immediate clearance, no action was taken, it claimed adding after waiting for six days, villagers led by the Village Council cleared the road themselves to restore connectivity.

Describing the incident as a clear example of negligence and administrative indifference, the Union said the continued delay in completing the project has hampered the socio-economic development of the region.
SASU has demanded that the department and the executing agency complete the PMGSY-III road project and make the entire stretch fully motorable within three months from the date of receipt of the ultimatum.
The Union warned that failure to meet the deadline would compel it to launch appropriate democratic agitation to safeguard the interests of the people. It maintained that any consequences arising from such action would be the sole responsibility of the concerned authorities and the executing agency for their continued delay, negligence and failure to complete the project.
Appealing to the Government of Nagaland for immediate intervention, SASU emphasized that the road serves as a lifeline for thousands of residents in the Seyochung area and is crucial for education, healthcare, transportation and overall socio-economic development.
