The Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) Tuensang inaugurated its new SEWA Shakti Kendra (SSK) today at House No. 23, Bazaar–‘C’, on the theme “A Space for Women, A Centre for Empowerment and Collective Action.”

The newly established SSK serves as a dedicated platform for informal women workers to gather, access essential information and services, build leadership skills, and advocate for their livelihoods and rights.

Speaking on the purpose of the centre, Temjenlemla, State Project Coordinator, SEWA Nagaland, emphasised that the SSK is not merely an office, but a space where women can come together, voice their concerns, access information and services, and collectively work towards solutions to challenges affecting their lives and livelihoods.

She further emphasised the importance of having a space of their own where women can speak freely about their concerns and work collectively towards improving their socio-economic conditions.

The programme was chaired by Tiamenla, SEC Member. The welcome address was delivered by Anung, District Convenor, followed by the introduction to SSK by Temjenlemla. The dedication prayer was offered by K Achung, APW, Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Starr, District Secretary, and benediction by Shithsangla, District Treasurer.

SEWA Nagaland is a membership-based organization dedicated to women workers in the informal sector; Street Vendors, Farmers and Home-based Workers. Since its inception in 2013 with the mobilization of workers in Dimapur, SEWA has grown into a collective of 3,000+ members across seven districts: Kohima, Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Tuensang, Shamator, Phek, and Meluri. It may be mentioned that the Tuensang SSK becomes SEWA Nagaland’s fifth operational SSK, joining existing centres in Dimapur, Kohima, Pfutsero, and Shamator.
