In connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026, announced by the Election Commission of India, a meeting-cum-awareness programme was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima, on August 12.
The meeting was attended by the Presidents and General Secretaries of recognised political parties, Kohima Unit/Division; President and General Secretary of the Angami Public Organization; two representatives each from Kohima-based units of various Tribal Hohos; and representatives of the Kohima Masjid Committee and Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK).
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, welcomed the tribal and community leaders and highlighted the importance of their participation in the SIR process.
He stated that the electoral roll is the foundation of the democratic system and stressed the need to ensure that it remains accurate and updated. He said the cooperation, support and coordination of tribal and community leaders are paramount, given their direct connection with people at the grassroots level.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that the SIR has two primary objectives: to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll and to identify and reduce inaccuracies, including the deletion of ineligible persons.

He described the interaction with tribal and community leaders as particularly important, as they can play a crucial role in disseminating information and encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the process.
