The Department of Social Welfare successfully convened a Review Meeting and Capacity-Building Training Program for Senior Supervisors and Supervisors, focusing on the implementation of various Departmental Schemes held on July 31 at Capital Convention Center, Kohima.
The primary objective of this initiative was to address Supervisory and management mechanism gaps, aimed to fortify monitoring mechanisms, enhance supervision and significantly improve service delivery to achieve the overarching objectives of the Department’s diverse welfare schemes.
In her opening remarks, Toshili Zhimomi, Director of Social Welfare, underscored the critical role of rigorous supervision, precision in data collection and timely reporting, whil;e also stressing on the virtue of punctuality in proffessional life. She advocated for a highly integrated approach, urging supervisors to strengthen cross-functional coordination across all schemes and missions operating under the Department’s purview. She further stressed the importance of seamless communication with superior officers, subordinate staff, and District Administrations, emphasizing that physical presence and active field stationing are non-negotiable for effective grassroots representation.
Addressing the gathering, Limawabang Jamir (IAS), Secretary to the Department of Social Welfare reiterated the profound scope of their responsibilities, urging the officials to meticulously identify operational deficiencies, strengthen supervisory linkages between district-level vertical leadership and field subordinates and provide robust mentorship to frontline “foot soldiers,” specifically refering to Anganwadi Workers (AWWs).Expressing concern over the technical and complex nature of today’s welfare schemes, he impressed upon supervisors to master all features of the variuos online applications, provide supportive supervision and handhold the Anganwadi Workers. Jamir exhorted the attendees to transform these training takeaways into practical field-level tools.

The training session featured an array of internal subject-matter experts drawn within the Department dealing with the subjects viz. Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 and the Aadhaar Enrolement Agency, PMMVY, schemes under MoSJE, Growth Monitoring, Poshan Tracker, Pankhuti Portal and iGot Karmayogi Portal who equipped the participants with comprehensive knowledge regarding their distinct roles and responsibilities with regard to implementation methodologies for flagship programs sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Ministry of Rural Development, specifically the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
Earlier, the inaugural program was chaired by Imkozenla, Joint Director and commenced with an invocation pronounced by Asangla Jamir, Assistant Director. The trainingproceedings concluded with closing remarks delivered by T. Aoakhum Longchar, Additional Director.
