Aghunato Town Council observed the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign with awareness meetings held at Inavi Colony and the rest of the nine colonies of Aghunato Town under Zunheboto District.
Addressing the gathering at Inavi Colony, the Chairman of Aghunato Town Council, Ahokhe Achumi, advocated strongly for keeping the town clean, hygienic and litter-free. The Chairman asserted that the Town Council will provide 4 dustbins each to all the colonies for disposing dry/wet garbage as and when the Government provides. He earnestly advised the general public to judiciously utilize the dustbin boxes and to dispose wastes only in the designated bins.
While at Vikiye Colony, the program was presided over by Juvitoli Yeptho, TCM, Aghunato Town Council. She called upon the shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness in and around their shops, make proper use of the dustbins provided by the Council and to motivate their neighbors to inculcate civic sense and community cooperation.
During the deliberation, Kakishe Yepthomi, President, Business Union, Aghunato, highlighted the acute non-availability of public toilets and urine sheds in the commercial hub and urged the Council to construct the same in all colonies. He also expressed grave concern over random and unauthorized collection of money from shopkeepers, particularly from non-locals, and urged the administration to take necessary disciplinary action.

Vilopu Katty, Member, Business Union, also voiced concern over the urgent requirement of community steps for public convenience and shortage of electricity poles. He stated that the number of households in the colonies has increased manifold, and therefore setting up of extra poles has become an urgent necessity.
The campaign concluded with a collective pledge to uphold cleanliness and make Aghunato a model clean town.

As part of Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, an Awareness and Advocacy activities programme was conducted on September 21 to 23 at Chezesu village, Chozuba and Meselumi village respectively under Phek District. The program was held on the theme, “Clean Public Spaces” and “Clean water bodies”, organised by the PHED Phek.
At Chezusu village, the Cleanliness drive was carried out with the village community focusing on tourist sites and community toilets. The PHED in collaboration with GHSS Chozuba also organised Swachhata Hi Seva campaign program at Chozuba ADC on September 22, where cleanliness drive was carried out at traditional wells, ponds, streams and nullahs etc.
On September 23 at Meselumi village, the cleanliness drive was conducted with villagers, where Er. Narisen Jami, Executive Engineer, PHED Phek exhorting the gathering said, the aims and purpose of the awareness campaign is to promote and encourage community ownership with responsible waste management and cleanliness drive in the village.
The Executive Engineer also highlighted the activities during the campaign includes advocacy for 4-Ways Segregation: Ab Do Nahi, Chaar, demonstration of 4-Ways bin usage, Say no to Plastic awareness drive with distribution of reusable cloth bags, distribution of compost packets, and demonstration of the house composting method.
