District Level Co-Ordination Committee Meeting on District Tobacco Control Cell Tuensang was held on Tuesday at DC Conference Hall, DIPR informed. At the meeting, certificates for Tobacco Free Schools were given to Baptist Thangyem Higher Secondary School, Baptist High School Longkhim, ANM School of Nursing, Government Primary School DC Hill, Government Middle School Post Office, and Bethesda School.
SP Tuensang, Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, IPS briefed the members about the COTPA Act 2003, during which he said to successfully implement it, schools, NGOs, and all the stakeholders should play an important role in fighting against the menace, with collective responsibility and proper strategy. He further said that the police department is always at the forefront in fighting against all social evil.
ADC Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe said that this year’s World Tobacco Day theme is ‘We Need Food, not Tobacco’ to educate tobacco farmers about alternative crop production. He encouraged all to join hands together to fight against the tobacco menace and expressed the need to spread awareness in colleges, schools, and churches about the harms of tobacco.
A discussion was also held to strengthen COTPA Act 2003 sec. 6 (A&B) and tobacco-free schools to tobacco-free homes. The programme was chaired by Dr Aoyanger Jr. Dental Specialist at DTCC Tuensang. Highlights of DTCC activities were delivered by Sentilong Longchar, District Consultant DTCC Tuensang.
