The United Baptist Church Toulazouma celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday with a special programme honouring mothers and paying tribute to departed mothers through songs, prayers and messages of encouragement. Senior mothers of the church presented special songs in remembrance of their late mothers, recalling their love, sacrifices and enduring legacy of faith.
Delivering the Mother’s Day message, UBCT Pastor Abeni Lotha spoke on the significant role mothers play in shaping families and society. Drawing examples from the Bible, she compared the lives of Hannah and Jezebel, describing Hannah as a God-fearing, faithful and prayerful mother whose legacy reflected humility, trust in God and spiritual guidance for her children.
In contrast, she referred to Jezebel as an example of an ungodly and controlling mother whose idolatrous life left behind a legacy of wickedness and destruction. Pastor Abeni encouraged mothers of the church to follow example of Hannah’s faith, prayer life and devotion, saying that a mother’s spiritual life can bring transformation within the family.
She further said that Mother’s Day was not meant to honour only one individual mother, but was a day for the church to come together in unity to pray for and encourage all mothers. Describing the occasion as a day of gratitude, prayer and encouragement, she acknowledged the sacrifices mothers make in serving their homes, families and God.

Pastor Abeni also encouraged those whose mothers are no longer alive not to be disheartened or view the occasion as a time for sorrow, but rather to remember and celebrate the good legacy their mothers left behind and thank God for their lives.
The programme also saw participation from the fathers’ group, who presented a special song dedicated to mothers in appreciation of their love, care and contributions to the family and the church. Offering prayer for the programme was led by Phongpha Konyak.
An act play depicting two contrasting families was also presented during the programme. The play highlighted the importance of prayer within the family, portraying one household grounded in prayer and faith, while the other neglected spiritual life. The presentation illustrated how prayer and faith can positively shape a family, while the absence of spiritual guidance may lead to negative consequences. The programme concluded with prayers for mothers and families.
