Ura Academy Board of Directors Conclave and Tenyidie Writers and Poets Meet held

Ura Academy (UA), the premier organization for the Tenyidie language, hosted the Ura Academy Board of Directors Conclave (Ura Academy Chathako Kehou) on October 25, followed by the Tenyidie Writers and Poets Meet (Kethumia mu Üzomia Kehou) on October 26. Both events were held at the Ura Academy (Badi) Headquarters on Mission Compound Road in Kohima.

 

The Board of Directors Conclave kicked off on October 25, featuring a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Rev. Beilieü Shüya and a lamp-lighting ceremony conducted by P Sani Mao, a member of the Ura Academy Board. UA President Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu presided over the program, with prayers offered by Rev. Tsolie Chase. Students from Nagaland University’s Tenyidie Department also delivered a special musical performance.

Rev. Beilieü Shüya shared insights on the historical significance of the Ura Academy to the attendees, while UA Vice-President Daso Paphino provided an update on the building’s renovation.

Writers and Poets Meet

On October 26, the Tenyidie Writers and Poets Meet took place, with Rev. Savito Nagi, President of the Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC), lighting the ceremonial lamp.

During the event, UA President Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu expressed his joy at the launch of the inaugural Tenyidie Writers and Poets Meet, encouraging participants to pursue their creativity. He emphasized the remarkable advancement of the Tenyidie language, which has been studied for 26 years at Nagaland University as its first language. Dr. Liezietsu noted that research has explored many folklores, traditions, and cultures of the Tenyimi community, and informed attendees that efforts are now underway to document the cultural heritage of other tribes as well.

Acknowledging literature as the cornerstone of civilization, he praised Tenyidie writers for their contributions and urged for increased literary production, with more publications scheduled for next year. He stressed that written works are vital for preserving language and culture, encouraging attendees to harness their talents for the benefit of future generations.

During the event, several books were launched, including “Dievi mu mhasicako (Wisdom and Archaic Words)” by Vizonyü Liezietsu, “Theza-e kedipuo ga?” and “Thie we a vie (Geizo da),” a poetry collection by Keviyiekhrieü Phewhuo published by Ura Academy. The Library Committee report was delivered by Vizonyü Liezietsu, a member of the committee.

Speeches were presented by writers Rev. Savito Nagi and Neichüriezo Chücha, with poetry recitations from Zacupa Chotso and Vesetso Rose. Neisevituo Sorhie shared excerpts from his book “A neikezivi.” The program was hosted by Daso Paphino, Vice-President of UA. Rev. Khrotso Mero offered the invocation prayer, followed by a musical performance from Keneikrül Noswe. Students from the Department of Tenyidie at Nagaland University showcased a drama, while Dzüvihol Kweho and M Meguo-o performed folk songs.

A tribute was also paid to the late Professor Dr. D. Kuolie, who had served as Secretary General of Ura Academy until his passing.
