Various organisations in Nagaland have on Friday rejected the state-wide bandh on 14 January called by the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC) in its respective jurisdictions.

The NPAC had called the bandh to express their resentment over the inordinate delay of the deliverance of the long-awaited Naga political solution as promised by the Government of India (GoI).

Rengma Hoho

The Rengma Hoho said that it “will not participate nor impose” the proposed bandh on Saturday in Tseminyu District.

The organisation stated that the bandh had been called without proper consultation with the Hoho and that it has not “officially endorse” any of its members to the meeting of the NPAC.

Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation (NZPO)

The organisation has stated that the state-wide bandh “shall not be imposed under Peren District”.

It cited that NPAC had called the bandh without consulting with the organisation.

Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD)

The Union on Friday resolved not to participate in the bandh and directed its members to do the same.

The TUD stated that while it welcomed the positive initiatives of any organisation towards “an honourable settlement of our protracted Naga political struggle”, it was “sceptical of the actions of some vested individuals and organizations”.

The union said that it will stand by its political principle of “One People, One Nation” based on the ideals of the 1951 Plebiscite, which is acceptable, honourable and inclusive of all Nagas and groups.

Furthermore, it added that bandhs “harass the common public” and therefore, it is “unbecoming of any organization/organizations to call for bandh every now and then”.

TUD also advised “every right thinking Nagas” to be wary of enemies “trying to destroy the very fabric of our Naga Nationhood for which our forefathers had sacrificed much.”

Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF)

The CYF has reaffirmed the directive of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) not to partake in the bandh called by NPAC on Saturday.

It has also instructed all its affiliated units to follow suit and to ensure that Sükrünye festival is observed in “safety, convenience, tranquility and peaceful environment”.

Further, the Chakhesang youths cautioned any organisation or group “causing hindrance” and “acting in defiance of this directive shall invite stern and swift action from CYF”.

Sovima Village Youth Organisation (SVYO)

Following the declaration of Angami Public Organisation (APO) and the affirmation by Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO), SVYO too has asserted that the NPAC bandh on 14 January will not be imposed in its village jurisdiction.

It stated, “all shops are to remain open and that all business activities will function as normal times”.
