In the wake of the proposed indefinite bandh along NH 2 passing through Wokha from 20 June 2023 being called by WVYO, the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS has ordered the removal of all unauthorised structures encroaching the highway in the district.
In the notification, DC Ranjan has warned that such standing structures “shall be removed by use of force on 19th June 2023.”
It may be noted that the Joint Action Committee, Wokha Village Youth organization (WVYO) on 23 May, gave the district administration 20 days to remove all encroachments from the right of way (ROW) on the ongoing two-lane construction of NH 2 from KM 72.40 to KM 83 within Wokha district.

Earlier on 20 May, the Wokha district administration, PWD (highway) department, TTC Infra company along with JAC inspected the mentioned stretch of the highway.
Following the inspection, JAC stated that it found discrepancies in 106 locations that including road encroachments, non-utilisation of compensated land, open drains, poor workmanship, etc. The committee of WVYO had then appealed to the DC for immediate attention and action on the issues.
On 14 June, WVYO informed that the ultimatum having lapsed, it will impose indefinite bandh along the said NH 2 stretch starting from 6:00 AM, 20 June 2023.
“DC Wokha has failed to take any action on the ground. Therefore, DC Wokha shall be solely held responsible and accountable in the event of any authority or individual attempting to undermine, obstruct, or hinder the genuine demands stated,” WVYO had stated.
