The inaugural Wokha District Futsal Championship 2026, organized by the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), commenced on Friday at Arena X, Airfield Colony, Wokha Town.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Yanrenthung Humtsoe, President of the Wokha District Sports Association (WDSA), graced the event as the special guest. He expressed joy at the launch of the exciting tournament through WDFA and highlighted that futsal has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sports, empowering and promoting football both in Nagaland and across India.
Humtsoe observed that Wokha District is steadily growing in football enthusiasm and talent. He encouraged the association to continue uplifting the sport and urged players to remain consistent and committed, avoiding intoxication and unhealthy practices that hamper performance and careers.
He further appealed to stakeholders and spectators to support the players with discipline, stressing that active participation and discipline in sports can transform society and strengthen community relationships. He also reminded all participating teams to exhibit the highest level of sportsmanship and wished them success in the tournament.

Delivering his address, N Samuel Ezung, President WDFA, informed that under the directive of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), the district is organising its first futsal championship with 14 registered teams. He added that the champions would represent Wokha District in the upcoming 5th Nagaland Futsal Club Championship (NFCC) 2026, scheduled for June and hosted by the Football Association of Tseminyu District.
Earlier, the invocation was pronounced by Robolo Shitiri, CCM of St Paul’s Parish, Wokha, while the tournament was formally declared open with the ceremonial kick-off by the special guest.
