Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) organised a program themed “Rejuvenation of Springs and Water Bodies” at Longkotsung in Mokokchung Village as part of World Environment Day celebration on Monday. The program was held in collaboration with six other departments and civic bodies of Mokokchung town and Mokokchung Village and focused on the importance of both natural and man-made water bodies to the town and why they need preservation.
Speaking at the program, Adviser to Water Resources Department, Tongpang Ozukum noted how six departments – Forest, Water Resources, Land Resources, Soil and Water Conservation, PHED and Rural Development – came together to work towards the project. He stressed on the important role that natural springs play in providing the town with fresh water during the drier parts of the year and that it was crucial to preserve both natural and man-made water bodies.
The adviser also suggested that a list should be made of all the springs within and around the town that needed preservation, so that the initiative could work on the preservation of these water bodies.
