World Malaria Day observed at Kohima

World Malaria Day was observed on April 25 at NHAK Lecture Hall, Kohima on the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.” The programme was organized by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima with the aim of reinforcing commitment towards malaria elimination and strengthening awareness on prevention and control.

The programme was chaired by Imsubenla, Public Health & Training Consultant (NVBDCP). The event commenced with a welcome note delivered by Dr Imotemsu, Managing Director, Naga Hospital Kohima, who highlighted the importance of collective action and sustained efforts in combating malaria in the state.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Imnapokim, Joint Director & State Programme Officer

(NVBDCP) Directorate of Health & Family Welfare who emphasized the urgency of accelerating interventions, strengthening surveillance systems, and ensuring community participation to achieve Malaria elimination goals.

SPO also emphasized on the newly operational 24×7 control room (contact no. 7630932527) for vector borne diseases which will play a crucial role in ensuring timely intervention and advancing malaria prevention and elimination initiative.

A technical presentation on the “Malaria Scenario in Kohima District (March 2023 to March 2026)” was presented by Emisenla, VBD Consultant, Kohima. The presentation provided an overview of trends, progress made, and key challenges, along with strategies for further strengthening malaria control measures in the district.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ngangnenmongba Longkumer, Monitoring & Evaluation Consultant (NVBDCP), who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants and staff for their active involvement and commitment.

The State NVBDCP team also visited Good Samaritan Senior Citizens’ Home in observance of World Malaria Day. Dr Imnapokim, Joint Director & State Programme Officer (NVBDCP) conducted an awareness session on vector-borne diseases, emphasizing the importance and proper usage of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). The observance served as a platform to reaffirm the state’s dedication towards achieving a malaria-free future through coordinated efforts, enhanced awareness, and community engagement.
