Addressing the celebration, Dr. Thebi Joseph Shupao remarked that, “teachers’ are undervalued and under-appreciated” and stated that, “this is especially sad considering the tremendous impact that teachers have on a daily basis.” Pointing out that teachers are some of the most influential people in the world, he said, “the profession is continuously mocked and put down instead of being revered and respected.”

He observed that a large majority of people have misconceptions about teachers and do not truly understand what it takes to be an effective educator. Towards this end, he asserted that, “teaching is one of the noblest professions to ever exist” while highlighting that “teachers are important because they shape our learning and development providing us with the knowledge and tools to succeed. They inspire and motivate and empower the next generation of learners, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Dr. Thebi Jospeh Shupao, who is also the first to have earned a PhD from Zhavame village, also talked about the values of a great teacher while emphasising that “a good teacher needs to be committed.” Elaborating on this, he said that “good teachers have a commitment to their own ongoing education as well as the learning experiences of the young people in their charge. They are committed to fostering a love of learning in their students.”
A great teacher, he further pointed out, is also a continuous learner and said that such teachers also go on to inspire students and parents.
The Guest Speaker also acknowledged all the 34 Teachers including those in service as well as teachers who have retired. Over 400 people including village leaders attended the programme held under the theme, “Education, the greatest wealth.”
