29th T20 Winter Cricket Challenge: LCYO and Highlander through to SF

Wokha: Semi final matches to take place on 6th January

LCYO and Highlander both won their quarterfinals and joined Juggernaut CC and Rising Star for the semifinals at the ongoing 29th T20 Winter Cricket Challenge held at the Local Ground in Wokha, under the aegis of the Nagaland Cricket Association Organised by the Senior Noble Klan.

In the first match of the day played between LCYO vs Comets CC, Comets CC won the toss and set up a target of 137/10 after being bowled out in the 19.4 overs. Comets CC started off the innings on a high note with major contributions from Renben Kikon 21, Nchumbemo Kikon 32 and Thungchamo 26. The tailenders failed to contribute towards the scoreboard leading to the full collapse of the team in 19.4 overs.

Chasing the target the openers of LCYO in the form of Nzanthung 23 and Renbemo 58 contributing 81 runs in between them. The powerplay proved to be a disaster for the bowling unit as the openers created havoc for the bowlers with classy boundaries coming from the bat of both the openers. After the fall of the opening pair Lijanbemo 31 runs not out led the team to victory in 14.1 overs. Faizul Haque was the only bowler for Comets CC who picked two wickets and gave away 10 runs. LCYO won the match by 6 wickets. Rendemo was adjudged as the Man of the Match.

In the 2nd match of the day played between Kohima Hornbills vs Highlander, Highlander won the toss and opted to bowl. Forcing to bat first Kohima Hornbills could only make 109/10 in 18.5 overs. Anga and Tapitu both failed to open their account leading to the collapse of the top order for a mere 45/5 in the 7th over. Vitoshe 26 and Lanu 15 stabled the innings for the Hornbills to get them to the three figure mark. The pick of the bowler was Hiketo Aye 4-0-23-4 followed up by Shamphri 4-0-20-2.

Chasing the low target Highlanders CC started the run chase with blistering knocks from Hiketo and Shamphri contributing 35 runs in between the two in the first two overs. For the first time in the history of Winter Cricket Challenge Asif Wasim was Timed out. Even after the fall of their openers the batters of Highlander were resilient and chased down the target in 11.1 overs. Anguka top scored with 25 runs not out. Anga was the only economical bowler for Hornbills who bowled 4-0-32-2.  Highlander won the match by 5 wickets. Hiketo was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
