A certification programme was organised on Wednesday upon completion of a three months training for weavers under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) Short Term Training (STT) scheme at the NDHHDC Training Centre in Blue Hill Colony, Wokha. The training was organised by Charity Club Multipurpose Society, under the guidance of the nodal agency NEHHDC, Guwahati.

At the event, Functional Manager, DIC Wokha Mhabemo Lotha awarded Certificates to 32 beneficiaries who completed the training.

In his speech, the special guest commended the trainees for their dedication and urged them to apply their skills for income generation. He stressed the importance of self-employment and encouraged the trainees to start small ventures, using their skills for self-sustenance and to set examples for others to follow as well. Further, Lotha advised the trainees to form groups or societies to maximize the impact of their efforts and assured them full support from the department.

Providing an overview of the PMKVY STT scheme, General Secretary of the Charity Club Multipurpose Society, Choncho M. Ezung stated that while 150 trainees initially enrolled, only a few could complete the program due to technical issues and Aadhar biometric verification. Ezung highlighted that the demand for handloom is high, however, the district is unable to meet the demand for handloom and weaving products as there are not many trained individuals in the district.  He urged the trainees to focus on skill enhancement and meeting local demands rather than solely aiming for certificates and subsidies.

SDO and Project Manager Wokha, Anuranjan Singh, expressed his satisfaction with the high turnout of trainees. He encouraged them to use the training centre, which also serves as a production centre, to market their products. Singh highlighted the unique design of Lotha tradition highlighting its demand in the market. He urged the trainees to be innovative and creative and meet the demands of the market.

Executive of NEHHDC, Bidyut Sharma, encouraged the trainees to connect with the organization for exhibitions and events, urging them to utilize their skills to enhance production.

The programme was chaired by Renboni Ngullie, with the welcome address delivered by Robin Enny and the vote of thanks by Loreno Ezung.
