Five Indian Army personnel have lost their lives when an army tank got stuck in the Shyok River in Eastern Ladakh due to sudden increase in the water level on the night of 28th June 2024.
The Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army informed in a statement that the incident took place near Saser Brangsa in Eastern Ladakh when the tank was deinducting from a military training activity.
“Rescue teams rushed to the location, however, due to high current and water levels, the rescue mission didn’t succeed and the tank crew lost their lives,” the Army said. Rescue operation is underway, it added.
The Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has mourned the deaths of the soldiers and stated that the nation will never forget their exemplary service. He also extended condolences to the bereaved families.
