The 52nd Sports Meet of the Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA), hosted by Thenyizu Village, commenced today at Local Ground, Thenyizu Village, with Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Government of Nagaland, Kudecho Khamo as the Guest Speaker.
Khamo, in his address during the opening ceremony appreciated and praised the leaders of Thenyizumi village for their futuristic vision and works executed so far such as the construction of “Rest House Thenyizu”, Morungs besides constructing two playgrounds. While he also applauded the achievements made by the members of Thenyizu Village in various fields.
Viewing that Chokri Area people have been pioneering at various level and worked for the welfare of the community, Khamo highlighted the achievement of Chakhesang people such as : first IPS (Direct recruit) officer Besesayo Kezo; the IAS officer, Vevotolu Kezo through direct recruitment besides Neposo Theluo and Zhothisa Dawhuo who were confered IAS while Rothihu Tetseo and Vekhosa Kotso who were also confered IPS.
Khamo said that sports is not a fun or leisure activity but is a popular profession that does not only gives a person fame and popularity but also employment. He highlighted the achievement Dr. T. Ao who have achieved a record in history, then Archer Chekrovolu Swuro who was conferred Arjuna Award and the recent Bronze Medalist at Paralympic Hokato Hotozhe Sema who was also confered Arjuna Award.
He maintained that the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) under the leadership of its President and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is pursuing and promoting sports at all levels to groom the young sportspersons from the state. Khamo informed that the state is planning other national sporting events to provide platform and exposure to sportspersons.
The Advisor also reiterated that the government of the day has been working for meritocracy through competitive examinations besides bringing out schemes for entrepreneurship and farming besides, besides introducing people’s centric schemes for health and others.
Asserting that there is no room for lazy people, Khamo exhorted the youth to live life with vision and purpose, encouraging the youth to get rid of alcohol and substance abuse that steals visions and goals from a person to be successful inorder to be contributors of change.
Khamo advised the Chokri Area people to uphold honesty and integrity which are the identity of the people from the area which are also essential in politics, church, village leadership to be at par with the rest of the world. Additionally, Advisor Khamo urged the youth to give a collective efforts to be agent of change and voice of change.

In his greetings, Vivolie Kezo, President of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) expressed happiness about the progress made by the Chokri Area people at various fields. He appreciated the Thenyizu village for being a progressive village.
The NWA President informed that the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) is working for the development and expansion of Wrestling at various districts and tribes stating that during the last Hornbill International Wrestling Championship, five new tribes have joined with a total of eight tribes playing.
Highlighting the need for promotion and development of professionalism in Wrestling sports, Kezo informed that from February 24 to March 2, 2025, over 20 Asian countries, two African countries and three European countries will come to learn Naga Wrestling simultaneously with Asian Belt Wrestling Championship and Naga Open Wrestling Champion.
He said the wrestlers from these countries will come to learn the Naga Wrestling inorder to promote the Naga Wrestling at International Arena where the “World Naga Wrestling Championship” and proposal has been sent to United World Wrestling (UWW).
Kezo also expressed optimism that, through the promotion of wrestling at international level the wrestlers, post-games, would become referees, coaches and management officials at national and international platforms for employment and livelihood. Furthermore, Kezo advised the sports persons, to take up sports with all seriousness to be professionals as sports will continue to grow.
On the occasion, Advisor Khamo inaugurated the “Rest House Thenyizu” and Morungs constructed by Thenyizu Village Council to commemorate the ocassion. He also unfurled the association Flag and lighted the Tournament Torch.
The Presidential address was delivered by Sekho Dawhuo, President of CAGSA, the opening ceremony was led by Vesezo Ringa, Advisor of CAGSA, while the invocation prayer was offered by Thepuzhoyi Theyo, Senior Pastor of Thenyizu Baptist Church. A special song was presented by Hoto Band, and oath-taking administered by Besuhtsoyi Vero, Games and Sports Secretary of CAGSA.
The week-long sporting event will feature the following: Track events (Men and Women) – 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 4x100m Relay, and 4x400m Mixed Relay.
Field events (Men and Women) – Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, and Javelin Throw. There will also be Arm Wrestling (Men and Women) and Game events (Men and Women) – Football, Volleyball, and Basketball.
